About the Band

KW Youth Concert Band is a full Wind Ensemble, including all of the standard woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments:

  • Flute and Piccolo
  • Clarinet: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Bb Clarinet, Eb Clarinet, Eb Alto Clarinet, Bb Bass Clarinet
  • Oboe and Bassoon
  • Saxophone: 1st & 2nd Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone
  • Trumpet: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Bb Trumpet and/or Bb Cornet
  • Horn: 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Horn in F
  • Trombone: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Trombones (including bass trombone)
  • Baritone/Euphonium
  • Tuba
  • String Bass
  • Percussion: including timpani, mallets (glockenspiel, xylophone, etc.), drum set, and auxiliary percussion instruments (snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, triangle, tambourine, etc.)

Membership in the ensemble is by audition, with placement available to young musicians aged 11 to 21 years who play any of the above instruments. Please note that due to standard concert band / wind ensemble instrumentation, the number of available spots for some instruments may be limited. It is recommended that students take private lessons on their chosen instrument, though not required.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees for the 2024-2025 Season are $275 per term, payable at the beginning of September to cover the fall term, and again at the beginning of January to cover the winter term. You may choose to pay the full amount in September if you wish, though it’s not required.

Instruments are not provided; it is expected that participants own their own instruments, or have exclusive use of an instrument for the length of the season (either a rental or a borrowed school instrument). Sheet music and folders will be provided.

Band members are expected to provide acceptable attire according to the concert dress code, which may be subject to change on a per-concert basis.
